The only thing that could make a really good banana bread recipe any better is chocolate chips! Not for everybody I will admit, but definitely for those who LOVE chocolate chips. This homemade banana bread with chocolate chips recipe is going to be your favorite variation! I used my original banana bread recipe and mini chocolate chips instead of regular ones to really spread the love into every piece of bread. Feel free to add a cup of walnuts if you’re feeling adventurous.
Although I’m using mini chocolate chips, there are several different types of chocolate chips to choose from so don’t limit yourself! You can try this recipe the first time around and maybe try a different variation next time. I mean peanut butter chips might be the next move for me! I actually try to stay away from peanut butter when cooking because my middle HATES peanut butter. Even though I’ve always loved it. I guess I went a little bit heavy on the peanut butter when he was in my belly. At least that’s my theory! haha

Is my Banana Ripe Enough?
- Ripe bananas are best for most banana recipes including banana breads! A really good banana will have a few dark spots and be slightly soft to the touch.
- This makes them easier to mash and mix into the recipe.
- I like to buy bananas that are green and let them ripen at home until I’m ready to use them. This takes about 5 days depending on the weather.
- One small banana is about 1/2 cup of mashed bananas
