Last month I was invited to attend a lunch hosted by the wonderful girls of Bloguettes. They have a mission that involves equipping inspiring bloggers to do what they love and do it well. Thier two day workshops around the US involves sessions on everything from branding to floral arranging. It was a beautiful setting at a gorgeous home in Scottsdale. I had the opportunity to chat with several creatives and I wanted to share with you guys some of the things I took away from our meet and greet!
[line]Be Unique….[line]
Dont try to be anyone else but yourself. Your ideas. Your personality. Your heart. These are all the things that will make you and your business unique. Make sure you always take time to be creative. Whether that’s getting away for a few days to your favorite cabin, attending a conference or unplugging to refocus. We have so much information coming at us all.day.long. New ideas need to be created and tested. Guess who’s job that is? Yep, yours!!!!
[line]Be Brave…[line]
Don’t let fear run your life and exceptionally your business and your dreams. Try it. Go for it. Regret is one of those words that know one wants in their vocabulary. Ask God for direction, get counsel from friends and mentors, but do something. Just don’t let your dreams sit in your notebooks!
[line]Be Specific…[line]
When it comes to creative people we seem to have a lot of hats. We can do a lot of things. But when it comes to your business you need to be very specific about what you do. Focus one one aspect of your business, do it well, and then expand.
[line]Be Open…[line]
Be willing to share your story to help up and coming creative business owners. Whether it’s through workshops, speaking at conferences or just having coffee with someone who needs advice or a mentor. Be open to sharing your experiences with others!
[line]Be Nice…[line]
This one is easy. Just remember you once were just starting out. There’s enough room for all of us to flourish and grow and bloom in the garden of creativity! Being kind should never be a character trait that you put aside. Push through your business challenges with grace and confidence and you will go much further than you ever would with bitterness, jealousy and envy!
Are you a creative business owner? What’s your best piece of advice?
