I love French inspired décor. Since I first moved into my own space, I’ve always had Eiffel tower photos, bon appetit signs, black & white, bistro and café themed décor. Today I don’t take on the literally style of French décor :0) you know the cheesy kind!. It’s a combination of different styles I adore but still have a influences of that French flair. My everyday breakfast nook/table doesn’t look like this but I certainly like to dress it up every now and then. On an average day, I have a table runner and one or two high and low centerpieces. My hubby gets annoyed by the high ones and moves them during dinner because he can’t see my face:0)
With some help from World Market here are some ways I added some ooh-lala to my nook by using a cohesive color pallete, mixing fabrics and woods and also by adding essential pieces like bistro chairs and greenery. You can find a list of all the products at towards the end of the post!
By keeping my walls a neutral color, Oatbran by Valspar, I was able to add a muted color palette in blues and greens. These colors are very complementary to French style. Even though beautiful slipcovers tied in the back would have given this space an even softer look, I knew that wasn’t very practical for my family. So instead I gave my bistro chairs a little cushion in neutral so I could some what mimic that look and still have the space feel comfortable. By using two paisley fabric chairs I was able to tie in the entire color scheme! I also hung some velvet drapes in blue!
Dinnerware and Serving ware
Picking out dinnerware with small paisley or scroll like patterns in a neutral color can also be a great way to add to the feeling of a cozy bistro. Also grab some café glasses:0) I enjoy sipping a little sparkling Lorina lemonade from them. Makes me feel all fancy! I also love all white dishes and serving pieces. By adding glass domes and white cake plates I was able to add some height to this dressed up table.
Floral and Greenery
No French home is complete with out a set of fresh or silk flowers in a vase. The white vase below is perfect for displaying beautiful arrangements or simple silk hydrangeas. I love a beautiful preserved boxwood topiaries too. Adding them to my table gives off a fresh scent without all the hassle of the real thing.
I also love to mix different types of wood. You can see in the photo above that there are three different types of wood colors and it all goes together. I collected all the pieces over time and that’s they way I wanted it to look:0)
