This weekend we finally finished decking our halls out for Christmas. We usually do this after Thanksgiving but it seems like these days the holidays are meshing together. Plus with me putting up our living room tree up early this year, it got us in the mood a little earlier.

Every year I find myself in the kitchen baking up a storm and this year has been no different. If you don’t already know, my little family is from Phoenix so the holiday season looks a little different out here. 80 degree days, short sleeves, iced chocolate cocoa, and ice cream seem to be the norm out here in the desert:0) Ice cream is something we enjoy year round so today I’m sharing a little treat that we have grown to love in our house and that’s PIZOOKIES. It’s a pizza like cookie topped with ice cream and all kids of other yummy goodness. It’s definitely a fun little tradition we have each year. During Christmas we put a little spin on it and add a lot of peppermint flavors and Christmas candies.

You can pick up most of your supplies including these ADORABLE mini cast iron pans from your local World Market. I seriously love this store. They have the best selection of items for your home and for your kitchen! The food section is awesome and a lot of time you’ll be surprised with all your will find!

How-ToWhat you’ll need:

3-4 mini cast iron skillets

Favorite Sugar Cookie Recipe

Pepper Mint Crunch

Peppermint Bark Syrup

Assorted Candy

Vanilla Ice Cream

Whipped Cream

How to make a Christmas Pizookie

First butter up your pans for an easy nonstick coat. Then have your kids press the sugar cookie dough into the mini pans. I think about 1/2 cup of sugar cookie dough is just enough. Make sure that it’s not to thin. If you start to see the bottom of the pan then that;s too thin. Once they have a nice and even coat have them add some candy by pressing it into the dough. This is a great time to have them help. They really feel like they are making their own little dessert. It’s so awesome to see them take pride in what they’ve done.

Next  bake your dough at about 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. What makes pizookies so good is that balance between crunch and gooey dough. So make sure you don’t over cook the cookie. Once you remove the cookie it should fall flat and settle like the photo below. Let it cool ( if serving to kids) or serve immediately with ice cream, whipped cream, and candies!

When it comes to dressing up the kitchen for Christmas each year I keep things pretty simple. We have a pair of open shelves that are the perfect spot for all things seasonal. I cleared everything off a few months ago because I wanted something fresh. SO for Christmas I added a few things from World Market. My favorite is me little display of cast iron skillets. Who knew my pizookie making obsession would leave me with a sweet little collection!  I also added a cute chalkboard and a NOEL sign from the Winter Soiree Collection.
